Fernwild 1.1.10: the joystick is round again
Repeated rotation could stretch the iPhone PWA and make its controls disappear. This update fixes canvas sizing and keeps the menu button available on touchscreens.
My girlfriend and I found this one while playing Fernwild on our iPhones, a 17 Pro and a 16. Rotate the screen a few times and the game could stretch out of shape. The round joystick became an ellipse.
Sometimes the joystick and fire button disappeared altogether. So did the menu button, leaving no way to pause or reach the setting that controls their visibility. Restarting the PWA got us out of it. Having to do that on stage 2 or 3 was considerably less amusing than the oval joystick.
The sizing problem came from a brief mismatch during rotation. iOS could report the previous orientation's window dimensions, and the standalone game could stay stuck with that answer. Godot drew into a portrait-sized buffer while the browser displayed a landscape canvas, stretching the picture to fit.
In 1.1.10, the page sizes the canvas from its actual layout box and keeps checking for 1.5 seconds after changes that could move it. The engine reads that size back and adjusts the game to match.
The touch controls also recover when the view changes without the expected notification. The menu button now stays available on touch devices regardless of whether the joystick and fire button are enabled. Turning off thumb controls should never remove the way to pause.
